This spring semester will be a special one for the microfarm. We have a large and lovely group of interns with creative ideas on bringing the farm to its full potential. The farm is already in great condition, but it has now reached a point where we can experiment with different ideas and see which work best. We’ll be looking towards new pest control, fertilizing, and composting techniques, as well as beautifying the farm with community seating areas, more signs, and the addition of flowers.
This past week the microfarm hit a new record in campus sales! The campus farm stand completely sold out of produce in the first hour. Big thanks to everyone who supported this 🙂 We’ll harvest more for next week’s stand, but come early if you can to get exactly what you’re looking for. Check out Fresh for the Picking to stay up to date on what we have available to harvest.
If you’re unable to make it to our weekly campus farm stand, don’t forget we also have our produce available at the HOPE farmer’s market every Sunday. In addition to this, you can find us at the all new UT Farm Stand, which will be bringing local, organic produce from the Austin area to campus. The first UT Farm Stand will be February 25, 1:00-5:30 pm. Mark your calendars for this awesome event!
Come out to the farm and be a part of this exciting time for us. No experience needed, and you’ll have opportunities to learn more about organic farming. As always, we hope to see you there.
